Apple Files Patent For iPhone Text To Speech, Speech To Text

Apple has recently filed a patent that would enable the iPhone to convert text to speech and vice verse. This is an important feature to have when you have a phone call and you are in a noisy environment. It allows communication to proceed clearly.

Imagine you are sitting in a bar with the music blasting away and people dancing then suddenly your iPhone rings. Instead of going outside you can take the cal on the spot and just activate this new feature. What the person on the other end is saying will automatically be converted to text while you can reply to that person by typing and it will be converted to speech. This all happens in real time and you can save your conversation as well.

The patent was filed after rumors circulated on the Internet that Apple was in talks with software company Nuance Communications. This company is responsible for creating the Dragon NaturallySpeaking software that is a popular speech to text application in computers.

There is still no news however if this new feature which is being patented will be making its way in the upcoming iPhone 5 model. If it does not make it on time for the release of the iPhone 5 then it might be included in future updates.
