Netflix Leads In US Internet Traffic

If you are wondering what service takes the bulk of US Internet traffic then look no further since a recent report released showed Netflix leading the way. Global Internet Phenomena reported that Netflix had a commanding share of 29.7% of all wired network download traffic in the US. Despite the metered billing and bandwidth cap imposed by ISP’s Netflix traffic grew by 44% over last year’s data.

Here’s a portion of the downstream traffic data gathered that shows Netflix beating out its rivals.

  • Netflix 29.70%
  • HTTP 18.36%
  • YouTube 11.04%
  • BitTorrent 10.37%
  • Flash Video 4.88%

The recent data shows that more and more people are using Netflix to get their movies. For as low as $7.99 a month you will be able to enjoy unlimited movie streaming anytime and anywhere. This new way to watch movies has threatened the cable TV industry.

Netflix is expected to continue its growth this year as it has signed a licensing deal with Miramax to make their movie library available for online streaming.

Netflix was founded in 1997 and is based in Los Gatos, California. The company specializes in video rentals through online streaming. The company surpassed 10 million subscribers by 2009.
