Google Ends Google Health And Google PowerMeter
Google is pulling the plug on two of its services that have not been popular with the general public. Google Health will be stopped on January 1, 2012 however data on the site can still be accessed until January 1, 2013. Google PowerMeter will be officially stopped at an earlier date on September 16, 2011.
Google Health did not really become popular with the public since people were concerned with their privacy concerns. This service enabled people to upload their medical history to Google. The goal of the service was for health care providers to allow their patients to import their medical files directly. Only a limited number of people and health care providers actually used this service.
The other service which Google plans to terminate is Google PowerMeter which the company said only drew in 11,000 users. This service aimed to provide people with data regarding their energy consumption. Recent studies show that if people are aware of their energy consumption they can easily reduce it to 15%.
Google has already provided instructions and tools for people who are using the service to easily export their data and save them. If you are part of the few people who actually use this service then it might be good to back up your data now.
