Facebook And Twitter Smash Record For Most U.S. Visitors in July

A few weeks ago it was reported that video sharing sites were seeing a drop in visitors due to the summer break; no such bad news for the likes of Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook And Twitter Smash Record For Most U.S. Visitors in JulyAccording to comScore, the traffic and visibility insights company, both Facebook and Twitter enjoyed a massive surge in traffic for the month of July. The numbers were so good that both social networks destroyed their previous records set for U.S. visitors.

The biggest winner was Facebook (no surprise there), who saw over 162 unique visitors from the U.S. visiting its site. This number is represents growth on the previous months, because in May, Facebook had 157.2 million uniques; while June saw just over 160.8 million visitors.

Twitter doesn’t attract anything near the volume enjoyed by Facebook, but it too saw massive growth in its numbers. 32.8 million U.S. visitors stopped by Twitter for the month of July, compared to the 30.6 million that visited in June. All in all, the growth for Twitter is a positive one as it’s been lagging for quite some time.

It’s difficult to tell right now what accounts for the surge in numbers, other social networking sites are seeing decline, so the growth might just be down to developments on each platform. Facebook in particular will be very happy with the numbers, not least because it needs to keep Google+ at bay. Let’s just see just how the numbers grow in the coming months; this will give some clue as to sustainability.
