Google Webmaster Central Launches Home Page Notifications
Google seems to have been bitten by the ‘improvement’ bug because no Google Product seems to have escaped some form of improvement tweak. Google Analytics got ‘real-time’ tracking; Blogger got ‘dynamic views’ and now Google Webmaster Central looks set to get its own major tweak.
From now on, webmasters no longer have to wade through countless data trying to get a solid picture of what’s going on with their websites. Thanks to the new homepage display of that Google is calling ‘Site Health’, webmasters will now be able to see which site needs the most attention. Site Health will act as a snapshot-diagnostics tool, giving webmasters a filtered and more specific set of data. This data will enable them to make faster decisions and direct their resources into fixing or improving struggling sites under their management.
The new health check diagnostics tool will only be available to those accounts that have fewer than 100 sites under management, but Google has expressed the intention to add greater capacity in the future. For now webmasters can get a snapshot of their websites performance in three main areas:
1) The presence of malware,
2) Information on any page removal,
3) Any crawling errors experienced by Google’s trusted web bot.
Of course, it must be made clear that Google Webmasters Central won’t be offering any data that isn’t already in place; what’s new will be how that data is arranged and displayed. At any rate, webmasters will be happy since it will make troubleshooting websites infinitely easier and more efficient.
