51 Million People Watch Videos On Ustream Every Month
Ustream has quietly carved out a niche for itself in the online video streaming business and now the website is having perhaps its best performance ever. According to an infographic highlighting the numbers of this performance, Ustream is gaining ground in most areas, including number of users, hours of video streamed along with other metrics.
According to the infographic titled, “The World is Live on Ustream”, 2011 saw over 2 billion views recorded. Globally, Ustream gets over 51 million viewers per month. This translates comfortably into a whopping 49 million video hours viewed each month. The creators of the infographic rather cheekily compared this last metric to watching all four seasons of Jersey Shore 1 million times.
An interesting stat that caught my eye was the fact that in 2011, the highest number of concurrent viewers recorded was 800,000. Males dominate viewership on Ustream at a commanding 55%, and 73% of viewers are White. On average, a viewer will watch 43.6 minutes of video on Ustream and most tune in to watch on Saturday—the peak day for viewing. Most videos are watched between 12pm and 2pm each peak day, and Apple and Android are almost neck and neck in terms of mobile viewership control.
All in all, it seems Ustream has put up a solid performance over 2011. We can expect I suppose, things to continue much the same in 2012, with perhaps a few improvements in some key areas.
