Google+ Is Predicted To Have 400 Million Users By The End Of 2012

2012 looks set to being a very eventful year indeed; some people are predicting the end of the world, while others in the tech space are predicting massive shakeups in the social media arena.

One of the things many people are keeping an eye on is the battle for social media supremacy between Google+ and Facebook. Whilst Facebook is expected to launch its IPO by April of 2012, others are charting spectacular growth for Google+ over the next 12 months.

According to Paul Allen of Ancestry.com, by the end of 2012, Google+ will have more than 400 million active users. This prediction is based on the current trend of signups, which peg Google+ at a steady but rising 62 million active users. But Facebook isn’t worried by the looks of things, because it too is adding new members every day. It may not have the growing mobile platform that is Android to help it out, but people in Asia and Latin America are social media mad—and the first thing they latch onto is Facebook. By 2012, Facebook could see itself with more than 1 billion active users; almost triple the number of users Google+ is expected to have.

If the world doesn’t end in 2012, it will be interesting to see the state of the battle between Google+ and Facebook. Who knows? Perhaps the battle itself will bring the end of the world.
