Google Receives 150 Million Unique Visitors A Month
Nielsen has tallied the numbers and revealed the top digital brand for 2011. And unsurprisingly, that brand is none other than the search behemoth Google. The search giant beat out Facebook and Yahoo who occupied the second and third slots respectively.
There are a few important things to note about the performance though, particularly as it relates to traffic numbers. Google launched its own social network, Google+ back in June of 2011 to much fanfare. Many felt at the time that this was going to be a credible challenge to Facebook in terms of online dominance, but this hasn’t been the case. The still very young social network to date has roughly 62 million active users, and according to the Nielsen numbers, it is not the reason Google is number one.
It seems Google’s other web properties like Gmail and its search portal are the big contributors to the over 150 million monthly unique visitors that Google got during 2011. Of course, Google is looking to change this scenario in 2012, with the hope that more and more people will show up to the Google+ party. Facebook of course will be looking to build on the 130 million or so unique visitors it gets to its platform each month. And as for Yahoo, the third place occupier, well, it will be trying to just survive the year.
Will Google be able to outdo Facebook in 2012 in terms of traffic? Share your thoughts below.
