Over 66% Of Adults Are Connected To A Social Network

Social networking has become the must-do thing of our time and it turns out that adults are a big partaker in the zeitgeist. According to a recent study, over 66% of adults are connected in some way to a social networking platform.

The demographic makeup of these 66% is skewed to women and the study found that more women are on Facebook and Twitter compared to their male counterpart. Facebook has a 57% female representation while Twitter has a slightly higher base at 59%.

The study which was conducted by Online MBA found that the nature of the platform also played a part in the gender split. Google+ for instance is skewed more towards men and ‘techie men’ at that. This is no real surprise because Google has always been the preserve of the so-called geeky male type. Pinterest on the other hand is all about ‘liking stuff and pinning it’. No gender does that better than females and so it comes as no surprise that the majority of Pinterest users are female.

Professional social networking on the other hand seems to have attracted an even mix of male and female. On the world’s biggest professional social network, LinkedIn, the distribution f male to female is pretty much even. And they all have lots of cash—more or less anyway since the typical household income among LinkedIn users is over $100,000.

All in all the study showed that social is still a part of everyday culture and even well-trodden adults enjoy sharing a link or story or two on their Facebook wall.
