Twilio Hits 100,000 Developers

Chances are if you’ve used some type of app on your phone it was powered by Twilio; it may not be obvious by looking at the top layer of the app but the platform is used heavily by developers.

The San Francisco-based start-up has reached a milestone with over 100,000 developers on its platform. Thanks to the growth in Android activations and the growing increase in iOS apps downloads, developers are flocking to Twilio. Last year round about this time there were only 70,000 developers on the platform and so surpassing the 100K mark is significant.

For CEO Jeff Lawson, the growth has been nothing short of spectacular, and according to him, “It’s been really exciting for us to see what others have built.” Twilio has the big-name patronage of companies like Airbnb to thank for its success. Airnbnb has used Twilio to help guests and hosts confirm their bookings via SMS and others are looking to fire up Twilio in the near future.

Twilio has also been doing well with investors having raised around $ million back in December to help finance its operations. The round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Union Square Ventures—two VCs which are popular in the tech circles. Applications development is in vogue at the moment and with platforms like Android nowhere near their peak, things can only get better for Twilio.
