Netflix Hits 1 Billion Hours Of Video Streaming Per Month
A few stories ago we covered a man who set the challenge of watching over 400 hours of Netflix movies in one month. The latest figures coming out of the company shows that there may be other movie buffs out there like who just love streaming their content as opposed to traditional TV.
In a Facebook post revealing the numbers behind Netflix’s June performance, CEO Reed Hastings said that the company surpassed the 1 billion hours mark for the first time. In real terms it means that Netflix is streaming about an hour of video a day to each of its subscribers.
The success of Netflix is down to the tireless efforts of Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos and Hastings was very keen on heaping the praise: “Congrats to Ted Sarandos, and his amazing content licensing team. Netflix monthly viewing exceeded 1 billion hours for the first time ever in June. When House of Cards and Arrested Development debut, we’ll blow these records away. Keep going, Ted, we need even more!”
A year ago many were predicting the end of Netflix after the company upped its prices 60% causing a mass exodus of subscribers. Since then things seemed to have returned to normal and the game-changing Netflix is proving yet again that the future of media consumption is over an online medium.
