Over 9 Million Apps And Websites Are Integrated With Facebook

Facebook may not be burning things up on Wall Street but in the real world of tech where platforms converge and dependencies are built, Facebook is still the best show in town.

Proof of this came recently from a study conducted by Engineyard.com. According to Engineyard, the Facebook app economy is very much alive and so far over 9 million apps and websites have been integrated with Facebook. So important is Facebook to the apps ecosystem that it counts for 160 million users sent to mobile apps in February of 2012. That number is sure to have increased by now and more and more mobile application developers are relying on Facebook to drive their traffic.

Apple for instance has a thriving applications repository but most people don’t know that 7 out of 10 of the biggest iOS apps are integrated with Facebook and very much rely on the social network giant for growth and profits. The apps industry has contributed over $16 billion so far to the US economy and Facebook has been a big part of that reason.

Even newly launched platforms grow on the back of Facebook and Spotify showed how this can be done last year when it started growing rapidly after integrating Facebook with its streaming music survives. Perhaps then, all this talk about Facebook’s struggles are a bit overblown; Facebook is important—even necessary and so I don’t think Zuckerberg has much to worry about.
