Outlook.com Hits 1 Million Users In 6 Hours
Microsoft’s email management client Outlook has had its fair share of detractors over the years, but Microsoft has stuck with it, and made improvements that now make it a delight to use.
So delightful has been Outlook’s improvements that people recently tripped over themselves to sign up to the newest version of the platform. Part of the fresh and exciting Windows 8 experience, Outlook attracted over 1 million users within 6 hours of official launch. What Microsoft has done is allow Hotmail users to change their interface over to the swanky looking Outlook. To do this Hotmail users simply have to rename their accounts to existinghotmailname@outlook. Simple enough happens to work.
The 1 million sign ups was confirmed using the standard communication tool for online achievement—a tweet. The news of course set the web abuzz which attracted even more users. When it’s all over, more than 5 million people will have updated their Hotmail accounts to the new design, breathing fresh air into the lungs of Microsoft’s email management division.
Windows 8 looks to be a massive step up for Microsoft in all areas and when it is released later this year, many will no doubt upgrade from the rather ‘competent’ Windows 7. Who would have thought that Microsoft would get so much better in its old age?
