GoDaddy Blames Catastrophic Downtime On Internal Network Issues

GoDaddy is no stranger to intermittent network issues which cause downtime, but the recent outage was so acute, many customers found themselves without access to their website for several hours.

In the aftermath of the fiasco, someone calling himself Anonymous Own3r claimed that the widespread failure was a result of his action but GoDaddy was quick to rebut the claim. According to GoDaddy, the failure wasn’t the result of any hacking or DDoS but rather an internal network failure. CEO Scott Wagner pointed out that, “Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions for our customers and GoDaddy.com.”

Needless to say the thousands of customers affected were not amused and although the outage only lasted a few hours, many are speculating that GoDaddy will see many customers moving their business elsewhere.

The company which is the world’s largest domain registrar has had problems in the past and many consider GoDaddy’s approach to web hosting lacking. Still, Wagner is contrite, and added that “We have let our customers down and we know it.”

Several high-profile celebrities who host their sites with GoDaddy suffered downtime and so their response will help or hinder GoDaddy’s attempts at repairing relationships with its customers overall.

The coming months will be very interesting for the rather colorful company.
