Google may be direct competitor to Apple on some fronts, but this doesn’t mean the search giant is reluctant to capitalize on an opportunity when it presents itself. Fresh on news that Apple is to release the iPhone 5 shortly, Google has done nothing less than introduce a standalone YouTube app for the iPhone. According to Google, the new app will be a major improvement on the one previously removed from iOS 6 and will include an improved channel guide; updated instant searches and recommendations as well as advanced options for social media sharing and interaction.

Yahoo Japan may only be a subsidiary of Yahoo’s main business but news that it has acquired mobile content provider, Community Factory for a whopping $12.8 million may sound a positive bell stateside. The deal is considered quite rare in that part of the world because big-company acquisitions don’t happen often. Yahoo Japan will reportedly get its hands on Decopic, an Asian version of Instagram which has around 7 million iOS and Android users.

Someone once described 4Chan.org as the “cesspool of the internet”; but thanks to the loyalty of many of its users, the site has now grown into a bona fide web presence. According to the sites founder, Christopher Poole (aka Moot), 4Chan is now getting 22 million unique visitors monthly. The majority of these people visit the site which is really an image board to look at and share some of the more outrageous and obscene elements of the net.
